The boisterous scene of the Mos Eisley Cantina on the planet of Tatooine in “Star Wars: A New Hope” is proof to the diversity of alien races present in George Lucas’ Star Wars universe. Most, if not all, of the planets in Star Wars appear to be singular in climate – the artic planet Hoth, desert Tatooine and the forest moon of Endor. Let’s explore some of its alien races:

• Mon Calamari
  Famous Mon Calamari: Admiral Ackbar
  
  The Mon Calamari are gentle land-dwelling amphibious people who share their watery home world of the same name with the similarly amphibious Quarren. Humanoid, ranging between 1.3 to 1.7 meters tall, the Mon Calamari people have salmon-colored skin, high-domed heads, webbed hands and large, goggle-like eyes.
  
  The Mon Calamari live comfortably on the surface of the planet in floating cities while the Quarren live in the depths of the oceans. Located along the Outer Rim, the planet of Mon Calamari looks like a blue marble from space because of its ocean-covered surface.
  
• Wookiee
  Famous Wookiee: Chewbacca
  Shaggy giants from an arboreal world, the tall and commanding Wookiee are actually intelligent, sophisticated, loyal and trusting despite their fearsome and savage countenance. Wookiees value loyalty and bravery; they are tender and gentle when peaceful, but can go berserk with rage when angered.
  
  Wookiees come from the Mid Rim planet of Kashyyyk, a verdant green world covered with immense forests. Its ecology is considered a "layered deathtrap"; the planet's surface is covered with trees multiple miles high and teeming with the dangerous and hostile animals. Entire cities are perched amongst the trees, housing millions of Wookiees.
  
• Twi’lek
  Famous Twi’leks: Oola, Bib Fortuna
  
  The tall, humanoid Twi’lek are calculating, cunning and charismatic people whose most distinctive feature are their long, shapely, tapered prehensile head tails. An average Twi’lek stands between 1.6 to 2.1 metres, and skin tones vary in shades of blue, green and white. Sly, pragmatic beings, Twi’leks often consort with almost every alien race – they can usually be found in positions of influence.
  
  Twi’leks originate from the storm-swept Outer Rim planet of Ryloth, but can be commonly found in many other Outer Rim planets.
