A Racoon in the Everglades
The Raccoon Family
The raccoon family is made up of 18 species. The most well-known members of the Procyonidae are the raccoon, the coati, the lesser panda and the kinkajou. All of the raccoon family have comparatively long tails, strong legs and flat paws with claws. They are plantigrade, like the great bears, and can stand upright on two feet. They have a keen sense of smell and are all nocturnal with the exception of the coati.
