The Phantom Corsair

Image 1 of 1

Believe it or not, this is not a Batmobile. The Phantom Corsair is an automobile prototype from 1938. A brainchild of Rust Heinz, a member of the H. J. Heinz family, the design was a departure from contemporary car design and it did away with many features, common at the time, that were eventually abandoned by mainstream designers.

Heinz planned to start producing Phantom Corsairs in 1938 in limited numbers. However, he died shortly after the car was completed and the plans came to an end.

In more current news, the vehicle was displayed at the 2009 New York Auto Show, courtesy of the National Automobile Museum in Nevada.
