One of the world’s most famous sailing races, the America’s cup is dramatic and glamorous enough to catch the attention of fans across the globe.
The race is run every four years and is named after the first yacht – a schooner called America – that won the trophy in 1851.
The race consists of a series of regatta races and is currently by yachts in the 12-metre class. It was last held off the coast of Auckland, New Zealand in 2003, where the defending New Zealand team were beaten to the title by the Swiss team, Alinghi.
The 32nd America’s cup challenge will be held in 2007, off the coast of Valencia in Spain.
