| The peloton makes its way through a crowd of farmers holding banners during the 10th stage of the Tour de France cycling race on Tuesday, 12 July, 2005. The start of the race was modified from Grenoble to Brignoud, about 11.5km away, to head off farmers who were planning to block the race. Tour organisers reached an agreement with livestock representatives in Brignoud to prevent a blockade. The farmers are upset with a Government program to reintroduce wolves to their former range in the French Alps, which they say has had dire consequences for their livestock. |
