Mobility has always been one of humankind’s basic needs. However, it was not until industrialisation that mobility gained a new dimension.
Technical inventions such as the steam engine led to the development of such means of transportation as the railway, the automobile and the airplane.
Leonardo da Vinci devoted himself to the technology of flying and designed various flying devices and here we are 500 years later discussing the new "Airbus A380", which is expected to enter service in 2006. With 555 seats, the flying giant will be the largest passenger aircraft ever to take off.
