MythBusters (DCL)

SUNDAY 25 MAY, 6pm

The MythBusters go to Alaska to test the biggest, snowy-est, icy-est myths around. They pack up their sleds, snowshoes and gold pans and head north to test some Alaskan anecdotes. Is it a case of frigidity, or can the myths withstand the freeze?

With more volcanoes than any other state, a goldmine of glaciers, and enough wildlife to make David Attenborough jealous, Alaska is one of the most extreme places on earth. But for the MythBusters, it’s also a land shrouded in mythology about its climate, topography, and wildlife. So, in this special the team heads north to test some Alaskan anecdotes.

Myth #1: Cabin Fever
Deep into one of the most barren landscapes on earth, the Alaskan ice fields, Adam and Jamie test Cabin Fever. Will a lack of external stimuli really make you take a turn for the worse?

Myth #2: Moose Mayhem
Meanwhile, Kari, Tory and Grant are investigating some Moose Mayhem. Some Alaskans have a rather odd notion of what to do if you suddenly find yourself driving towards a moose. Rather than braking, you should instead floor the accelerator! Apparently, by hitting the moose fast, you literally drive your car underneath it. You take out its legs and the heavy body lands on the roof of the car or if you are really fast, not on the car at all. After meeting some moose in the Alaskan tundra, our intrepid trio head back to San Francisco to build some fake moose and get crashing!

Myth #3: Dynamite Dog
Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage recreate the story of some hapless hunter who accidentally sank their brand new SUV into a frozen lake, when they tried to create a fishing hole with dynamite. Is it sink or swim for the SUV?
