Deep in the heart of the English countryside there is a village where a group of extraordinary characters reside.
Like every village, alongside the daily routines and behind closed doors there are dramas unfolding. This is a special village. The issues are real, the stories compelling and all the characters…are animals.
After all, every animal has a character, just ask any pet owner.
We asked the keepers at Paignton Zoo, an award-winning environmental park on the Devon coast, to tell us some stories about their animals, their characters and their lives. For the first time ever, we get the animals to tell their own stories.
You will hear them, literally, straight from the horses mouth. In a cross between Creature Comforts, Johnny Morris’ Animal Magic and with the help of some of the UK’s best known comedy actors, including Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh), Sally Phillips (Smack the Pony, Bridget Jones) and Daisy Haggard (Green Wing) the characters will tell their own unique stories.
We join these colourful characters as they find their way through life in the ‘village’. They may be animals, but they find themselves in situations that are all too familiar to us; moving house, going on a diet, having children, visiting hospital and finding love.
Sound familiar? They may be creatures…but they’re just like us.
