POLAR BEARS: LIVING ON THIN ICE

UK PREMIERE ONE-OFF
MONDAY 7 DECEMBER AT 8PM

As the Arctic winter storms sweep over the frozen white expanse at more than 100mph with temperatures dropping down to -60°C, the continents inhabitants try their best to survive. In this inhospitable world lies a nursery of polar bears, ringed seals, walruses and beluga whales – all of them trying to raise their young in among the snow and ice. Renowned filmmaker Thomas Behrend and his team follow two polar bear families over one year capturing rare and unique pictures of a mother and her triplets. Polar Bears: Living on Thin Ice shows the beauty of the Arctic as well as the unique behaviour of its inhabitants. The film also illustrates how their struggle for survival is being severely impacted by the increasingly negative forces of climate change.

LIONS AND GIANTS

UK PREMIERE ONE-OFF
SATURDAY 5 DECEMBER AT 7PM

For decades the Savuti lion pride on the western boundary of the Chobe National Park in Botswana has ruled supreme. This pride, numbering up to 40 individuals, has made the unique practise of hunting elephants their specialty. Lions And Giants is the story of a few breakaway lionesses and a group of elephants who are forced to leave Savuti and travel north to the Chobe River. But, unable to forget her past, Seeva, one of the young lionesses on the journey, is determined to continue hunting elephants and Numsa & Jabu are the young elephant calves in the Serondela herd who become the prime target of this tenacious lioness. Faced with many challenges these old adversaries are not only forced to deal with basic survival, but also the threat of each other. Who will survive to make it all the way to the salvation of the Chobe River?
