Sangrita bears no relation to sangria (except for a similar name) – and can be drunk on its own, or alongside a shot of tequila, if you are so inclined.

Ingredients
  • 1 400g tin tomatoes
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 small green chillies
  • 120ml freshly squeezed orange juice
  • juice of 3 limes
  • ½ tsp caster sugar
  • pinch of salt
1. Finely chop the onion, and de-seed and finely chop the chillies.

2. Place the tomatoes, onion, chillies, orange juice, lime juice, sugar and salt in a food processor.

3. Blend thoroughly, until the mixture is very smooth. Pour into a jug and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving. Serve in small glasses as a powerful non-alcoholic aperitif.
