I WAS BITTEN

I Was Bitten

What would you do if you were attacked by over a thousand Africanized bees?  What makes rattlesnake venom so deadly? Is amputation the only way out if you were bitten by a Stiletto snake? I WAS BITTEN features real-life stories of humans surviving bites from some of the most deadly snakes, insects, and other venomous animals. Each episode features accounts of survivors from around the world who were previously bitten by deadly animals, the fascinating science behind the bites, and the crippling effects and devastating aftermath of lethal toxins on the human body.

Most of us take it for granted that advances in biomedical technology have made us immune, if not invincible to most accidents. Yet we could easily succumb to venom within minutes and many a times, the effects of a bite or sting is only felt and seen when it is too late. Even more daunting, our knowledge of venoms is not exhaustive – at times, there are relatively few documented cases on a particular bite or sting with not much information available, and hospitals themselves are ill-equipped with anti-venom measures.

In every episode of I WAS BITTEN, survivors give their accounts of potentially fatal brushes with venomous animals – from snakes to spiders to killer bees. Utilising cutting-edge graphics, and interviews with both the victims and the doctors involved in saving them, I WAS BITTEN will show you what happens inside the human body and the extraordinary science of survival. We also take a look at the new and unexpected challenges that medical experts face as they battle uncertainty and race against the speed of venom dispersion to save the patients, when every breath they take could be their last.
