September 30, 1888 - Elizabeth 'Long Liz' Stride is killed in Dutfield's Yard, just off Berners Street at around 1am. Her throat had been cut, but she was not mutilated, leading to opinion that the Ripper had been disturbed after killing her.

Amongst a wealth of hoax letters received by newspapers claiming to be Jack The Ripper, one stands out as especially disturbing.
Fact
The killing spree of Jack the Ripper was believed to be too much for the Whitechapel CID and Scotland Yard became involved, sending in reinforcements. However, this still did not result in the killer's arrest.
